Today was such an emotional day. I have the flu, again. I have been sicker than a dog since yesterday. In fact, I don't know if I have the flu or food poisoning. But whatever it is, it has kicked my butt. I had to have John put Damon on the bus since I am so weak and haven't slept in 24hrs. I was just lying down for a nap when I received a phone call around 1pm that Damon didn't arrive to school. HE WAS MISSING! I have never felt so scared in my life. I immediately called John and he swore to me that he put him on the bus. The secretary told me that they were searching the building but couldn't find him. They told me to stay calm, but I couldn't and dialed 911. The dispatcher told me to stay at home and that they would send a car for me. I was trying to stay calm but couldn't imagine where he could be or who he was with. I WAS FRANTIC! I decided I couldn't wait at home and needed to be at the school so I headed for the car when I almost fainted and couldn't stop shaking, so I called my Dad to come get me. He was here in 5 seconds (literally) and we were off to the school. John was already at the school and was running circles searching desperately for our son. When I arrived I saw a dozen police cars and cops swarming the building. I ran to the office when I was met by the PTA and Office Staff, who all started crying when they saw me. The PTA President who is a friend of mine ran to me and said "DON'T WORRY, WE FOUND HIM!" He had fallen asleep on the bus and when he woke up the bus was empty, he got scared and hid under the seat. He was lost and alone for almost 2 hours. I can't even tell you what ran through my mind. I was so afraid that I might not ever see him again. The Bus Driver brought him to us, and I have never been so relieved. He was scared out of his mind and just wanted to go home. What's funny is our new school didn't think calling to verify absences was very important, and when Damon had Strep last week, I never got a call. So you can bet your bottom dollar I was in the office raising hell and told them what a security issue it was for them not to verify absences. The Staff wasn't very happy with me, in fact I could feel them talking behind my back. I think that they thought I was making their jobs to hard for them. Well all my bitching and moaning paid off. They put in effect an absentee list that started yesterday, and that is why I was informed so quickly that Damon didn't arrive to school. The Staff has since apologized to me and now realized that I was only looking out for our students best interests. So tonight I am on my knees thanking God that he is safe. We are all counting our Blessings and we are all very thankful that his Guardian Angels and his Uncle Danny were watching over him. They kept him safe and brought him home to us.
TINA! Your post made me totally cry. What a horrible day you have had, especially when you feel sick to start with. And poor sweet little Damon hiding under the seat. I just want to give him a big hug and kiss and I don't even know him. Thank God is right! I can't believe the schools in Utah don't verify. My friend told me that hers wouldn't call unless it has been a week. Our school calls within 10-15 minutes. I think God inspired you to make a fuss last week! Way to go, Mom!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! My heart was racing and I stopped breathing as I read this. And I cried when I pictured Damon hiding under the seat on the bus because he was so scared. What a horrible day; I'm so sorry to hear. Hope you feel better and get some rest. Love you all and can't wait to see you all next month!
